Services:

Handyman and maintenance work includes (but is not limited to):

  • Shop/studio/home deep cleaning

  • Small building/fabrication projects to assist a creative practice or home organization

  • Creating installation pieces to beautify a space

  • Patching holes and fixing property’s cosmetic imperfections

  • Interior house painting

  • Landscaping/building raised beds

Studio assistant work includes (but is not limited to):

  • Social media management, content creation, and strategy

  • Prep work for artists-wood, ceramics, fiber, canvas stretching, mural painting, etc

  • Event vending assistance

  • Delivering artwork/prepping for shipment

  • Researching residency/grant/exhibition opportunities

Serving Milwaukee and surrounding areas. Will travel to Madison, Sheboygan, and Chicago with travel time added and $0.62/mile round trip. Week- to month-long projects out-of-network available upon request with reasonable housing accommodations and travel expenses included.


Background:

 Lonesome Bill Walker is an artist in Milwaukee, WI with a background in community engagement and physical labor.

His work with the arts and social justice includes:

  • disability advocacy, including personal assistant roles and accessibility consulting

  • creative education and mentorship, including volunteering with 826 Michigan and the Milwaukee Makerspace

  • facilitating community events, including fundraising for mutual aid

Lonesome Bill’s work in construction and manual labor includes:

  • demolition

  • wood shop maintenance and education

  • landscaping and farming, including forklift operation

These two paths combined have led him to his role as a handyman, groundskeeper, and studio assistant. Understanding the physical labor, time management, emotional intelligence, and creative competence that goes into assisting artists and community members, Lonesome Bill is able to provide excellent and much-needed support to those in the creative field. He also understands the need for renters and home owners- particularly Queer, Trans, and/or disabled community members- to feel safe and understood while receiving help in their own homes is crucial for a higher quality of life.


Rates: $45/hour • Jobs are bid on scope of project, materials needed, drive time, and timeline.
